Over the years Morsø have brought out a number of different versions of their Squirrel stove, also known as the 1400 series. There can be some confusion over which one you have, and you will need to know for purchasing spares such as fire bricks.
More recent models will have an ID plate on the back of them, low down. If you are able to use a mirror or phone camera to view these, then you should find the model number on there. If you can’t access this, or your stove is older and doesn’t have one, then you can use the ID Guide below which covers the most common UK models.
Be aware that some models were also available with different heights of legs, so don’t always judge a model by the leg that is on it as it is the body of the stove that matters. Also handles can get replaced over time with different ones and might not be the original ones!
Question 1. How many doors does your stove have?
If it has TWO DOORS, one each for the firebox and the ash pan, then move to Question 2.
If it has ONE DOOR that covers both the fire box and the ashpan, then move to Question 3.
Question 2. How many air control spinners are there on the front of the stove?
If it has ONE SPINNER then it is the 1430 or 1435.
If it has TWO SPINNERS then it is the 1410.
Question 3. Does it have legs, or long side panels that support the stove?
If it has LEGS, then move to question 5.
If it has LONG SIDE PANELS that support the stove rather than legs, move to question 4.
Question 5. Open the door at look and the fire bricks inside. Are the side bricks in one section or two on each side? Ignore any cracks caused by damage.
If there are TWO SIDE BRICKS on each side, then it is the 1412.
If there is ONE SIDE BRICK on each side, then move to question 6.
