Charnwood Vlaze Heat Shields and Hearths

These contemporary enamel wall-hung heat shields are made by Charnwood, and bring a stylish solution to the problem of placing a stove close to a combustible wall. The vitreous enamel panel features a dual skin that provides thermal protection and an effective convection system that distributes heat back into the room.
By using a Vlaze panel you can halve the distance to combustibles to the side or back of a stove, depending on where it is placed. For Charnwood stoves the distance is brought down to just 100mm.
As well as making it easier to locate a stove close to a plasterboard wall, the panels also create a focal point in the room, setting off your stove installation visually. Using a rail mounted system the heat shield is quick and easy to install and is available in three sizes to suit most freestanding stove models.
Matching hearths are now available as well, in plain and patterned finishes. Sizes available are:  1000 x 300 x 12mm, 800 x 850 x 12mm, 900 x 900 x 12mm, 800 x 1000 x 12mm, and 1100 x 1200 x 16mm

Charnwood Arc 5

The sleek Arc 5 is available in two heights, making it suitable for a wide range of settings. With a small clearance of 80mm to combustibles at the back, it is a useful stove for placing close to a wall, and this helps to reduce its overall footplate in the room.

Operated by one single air control the combustion system drastically reduces emissions and gives a superior flame pattern. It is therefore environmentally friendly with exceptionally low smoke emissions, and exceeds the new Eco Design standards and DEFRA exemption limits.

Fuel saving: over 80% efficient when burning wood or smokeless fuel.

Woodwarm Phoenix Eco Firebug 8kW

The largest of the Phoenix range is the Firebug, which has the same large glass window as the smaller Firegem and Fireblaze, which offers an exceptional view of the flames. All the Phoenix range are easy to light and control, and feature the unique clean burn air wash system that keeps your glass clean at all times. It is available as a taller version as well, plus as a convector version that is suitable for being placed closer to combustibles.  Phoenix models are suitable for a 12mm super imposed hearth and feature an interchangeable flue outlet position with a 152mm flue.

NOTE:  Until Spring 2019 the Firebug was a wider, 10kW stove. With the 2019 redesign to improve efficiency, they have also made it the same width as the Firegem (5kW) and the Fireblaze (6kW) but deeper. It is now rated at 8kW but as with all the Phoenix range it is a gutsy stove and would provide more heat if pushed.  The portfolio photos therefore show the old style Firebug, but we will be adding photos of the new version as they become available.

Stove Spares

The supply of stove spares is dealt with in different ways depending on the stove manufacturer and model. We supply or can order spare parts for any of the brands we deal with. Please note we do not supply spares for brand names we have no relationship with.

Please read the information below to find out what is most relevant to your situation;-
Woodwarm –  We hold most Woodwarm spares in stock including; door seals, door glass, grate bars, baffle plates, fire bricks, log fences, door closing mechanisms. Any other spares can be ordered and are usually delivered quickly. It is worth calling us before making a special trip out to ensure we have everything in stock.
Charnwood – Charnwood offer an excellent spares service direct from their website with exploded diagrams for easy parts identification. In the first instance we recommend that you contact Charnwood direct since they will get the items to you more quickly than if you were to order them through us. However if you get stuck or wish to discuss your order with us then we will be happy to help.
Morso – We hold a select range of the most common Morso spares (mainly for Squirrels) including; door seals, fire bricks, baffle plates, door glass, replacement grates. Anything that is not in stock can be ordered through us and then either collected or we can post on to you.
Other Spares – For any other spares please contact us on 01631 720539 for further information. We do not hold many spares for the less commonly sold stoves and will need to order these direct from the manufacturer. Please be aware than some spares orders, (e.g. Franco Belge) often take up to 3 months to be shipped due to inefficient supply chains which we are unable to influence.
Door Glass – glass can either be obtained through us,  from your stove manufacturer (Charnwood) or generally much more cheaply and quickly from Donside Heating’s website: www.fastglassdirect.co.uk where they cut glass to any size and shape.

Stove Maintenance Items

Backwoodsman stocks a range of maintenance products suitable for the manufacturers we principally deal with and for supply to customers within our catchment area. A small selection of these are shown below. Please contact us on 01631 720539 for further information.
Temcem Fire Cement – a non-combustible premium Fire Cement / Putty for bonding low porosity surfaces and for general sealing and repairing work where high temperature resistance up to+1400°C is required. Used in the construction, installation and repair of Fires, Stoves and Fireplaces it will comply with BS476 Part 4. We stock Black only. Available in sizes from 0.5Kg – 25Kg

Stovax Thermic Seal – high temperature rope adhesive for the replacement of door seals.

FlexSeal – a cartridge (300ml) applied silicone based sealant designed for use where a flexible bond is required together with high temperature resistance. This adhesive gives excellent adhesion between most substrates and, because of its high elasticity, is particularly suited for gap-filling applications and jointing materials of different thermal expansion characteristics and where vibration is a problem. Provides excellent adhesion to metals, glass, ceramics, polymers etc. , and is resistant to many solvents . It provides a high temperature flexible joint for flues, ducting etc whilst being resistant to weathering and ageing (making it suitable for external use). Has a wide operating temperature range up to 350°C.

Stanley Window Scraper – very useful for removing stubborn soot build up on the door glass of a stove.

Calfire Stove Glass Cleaner – Removes tar, soot and creosote stains. Available in a 500ml bottle.

Stove Paint

We offer three varieties of stove paint; ideal for touching up your stove, convector-box or stovepipe. The most suitable product choice will depend on your stove manufacturer

Calfire Stove Bright Paint

Calfire Paint_2A high quality fast drying, high temperature paint for use on wood, multi-fuel and gas stoves, furnaces, traditional cast iron cookers, cast iron chimineas and many other steel and cast iron products with in-service temperatures to 650 degrees C.
Unique in offering a range of 3 blacks and over 30 colours, Stove Bright is used by many of the leading Stove Manufacturers worldwide as their factory finish.
While we don’t stock the full range of colours we always have Metallic Black available and do tend to have the colours most commonly requested by our customers for touching up their stove.

Charnwood Stove Paint

Available in 8 colours as illustrated below. This high temperature stove paint is easy to apply, fast drying and can withstand temperatures of up to 600°c.

Caframo Ecofan

The Caframo Ecofan is a heat-powered fan designed to circulate the warm air created by a wood stove. Improved warm air circulation results in greater comfort and less fuel consumption.
Benefits of Ecofans:

  • Increases Your Comfort
  • Costs Nothing to Operate
  • Cuts Your Fuel Costs
  • Safe & Silent

Increased Efficiency – Warm air is pushed out into the living area rather than just rising to the ceiling above the stove. This improves the heating effectiveness of the stove and results in greater room comfort as shown below.
Ecofan_2
Fuel Savings – Tests carried out in collaboration with a leading Canadian university has proved that using an Ecofan results in fuel savings of up to 18%.
No Fuss Operation – The Ecofan starts automatically and adjusts its speed with the stove temperature. As the stove heats up, the Ecofan runs faster to move more of the warm air into the room. As the stove burns down and cools, the Ecofan automatically shuts off.
Costs Nothing to Operate – Using the heat from the stove, the Ecofan is the most economical way to effectively  circulate warm air. No cables, plugs or batteries are required.
Unique Blade Design: Safe & Efficient – The unique Ecofan blade is designed to deliver a broad cross section of gentle warm air movement to avioid uncomfortable drafts. The blade is the most efficient blade yet, moving more air at a wider range of stove temperatures. Complies with IEC 60335-280 saftey standards.
For Optimum Performance of Your Ecofan – Placement of your Ecofan on your stove top is critical. Be sure to position the Ecofan on the stove so that the cool air will be drawn over the ‘cooling fins’. The Ecofan should not be used directly in front of the stovepipe or at the front of the stove. Place the Ecofan at the back edge of the stove, or if you do not have room then to the side with its back end facing off to the side of the stove.
Ecofan_4We supply both ULTRAIR and AIRMAX models which are available in black & nickel / black & black / black & gold – call 01631 720539 for further details.
GUARANTEE – Cafrano Ecofans come with a 2 year guarantee

Morsø Squirrel 1442

Morsø Squirrel 1442 with squirrel sides

With the needs of the environment in mind, coupled with the desire to meet the world’s most stringent environmental requirements, Morsø has significantly improved the combustion system of its true classic – the widely known Squirrel stove.

The Morso Squirrel 1442 convector stove fires up quickly and effectively. Its firebox is fitted with a tertiary air chamber supplying additional combustion air directly above the flame. This additional air ensures secondary combustion of any smoke and gases giving maximum efficiency and minimal particle and CO emissions into the atmosphere.

The Morsø 1442 stove’s convection process ensures swift and evenly distributed heating throughout the room. The size of the stove makes it ideal for fairly small homes, weekend cottages and similar, and ensures that both the fuel and the stove are utilised optimally.

It is equipped with a riddling grate and ash pan, which makes it easy to remove the ash and clean the stove. Morsø’s air wash system will maintain a clear glass, maximising your enjoyment of the stove. The side panels of this iconic model are still decorated with Morsø’s classic squirrel motif or alternatively with ribbed sides. Three leg lengths are available with the shortest as standard.

Clearance to combustibles to the rear is only 100mm meaning it is a good option when looking to install a stove which requires a twin-wall chimney.

The quality is robust and well engineered.
